The inner city is a great place to live because it is probably near where you work. It is convenient and probably close to most of the good places in the city to go. The downside to this is that the inner city is expensive. Unless you live in a posh subdivision, there is a very good chance that you would not want your children to go out without parental supervision.
The Suburbs are generally cozy safe places. Located away from the inner city there is a chill atmosphere. The neighbors are generally closer to each other and will look after one another. However, as the name says suburbs are far from where you are likely to work, so you better be prepared to have long commutes.
Permanency of Residence
Another factor to look into is the permanency of the residents. In particular, ask around how long people have been living there and asked about their experiences.
If 80-year-old Mrs. Martinez has been living in the neighborhood since even before the Civil Rights Movement and she raised her kids and grandkids in the area then maybe the neighborhood is a good one then and remains a good neighborhood to this day.
But if everyone you see is transient, as in nobody has stayed in the area for longer than five years, and all the houses are owned by landlords who don’t even reside in the area, then you might want to caution yourself from moving there.
Quality of Schools
At some point, you will want to have children. It is a good thing. Of course, children need to go to school so there should be some consideration as to where they will go to school. Public school is probably the best option unless you are truly well off. So, go check out the local public school before making a decision
