Let’s get some bad news out of the way first – If you get into an accident while driving for one of these ride-share companies, most likely your auto insurance (on a standard, unendorsed, auto policy) won’t cover you for any damage or injuries you cause.
Is there a silver lining? Yes!
Because of the great success that ride-share companies have had, some insurance companies have realized the need to incorporate ride sharing endorsements or inclusions – but be aware that rideshare coverage does not come with an unendorsed auto insurance policy. An endorsement just means that the insurance company is adding to (or in some cases taking away from) your insurance policy.
If you’ve recently been hired by or are thinking of working for Uber, or Lyft, or another ride sharing company, please consult one of our local, trusted, independent insurance agents to review your policy with you and to help you get the added coverage or inclusion put onto your policy.
